This position is part of the Cost Estimating and Program Evaluation, Department of Energy. A successful candidate in this position will serve as Branch Chief for the Cost Estimating Branch of the Office of Cost Estimating and Program Evaluation providing long-range planning of staff, cost data collection and validation, and assist the Director in providing data-driven analysis on all aspects of the Nuclear Security Enterprise leading to better mission planning.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-03, GS 13/14. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: conducting at least 3 of the following activities: (Applicant must meet 3 out of 5)
Examples of Specialized Experience:
1. Experience supervising or overseeing projects that included providing technical and administrative direction, assigning work, and /or managing the recruitment, retention, and performance and conduct of staff under your management.
2. Experience executing budget formulation (PPBE, DOD POM, or equivalent systems) for an organization (Division, Office, or Agency level) which would have involved multiple projects typically for a multi-year period OR experience doing cost estimation of large programs.
3. Experience briefing senior agency officials (such as, Senior Executive Service, general officers) on technical projects, areas, or issues.
4. Experience overseeing or leading complex technical projects often spanning technical areas or organizational boundaries related to program evaluation, budget formulation, or cost estimating.
5. Experience in any of these areas, budget formulation, analysis of alternatives, cost estimating, course of action analyses, and long range planning.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
Bachelors Degree in Operations Research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
