You will serve as a GG-13 scientist, mathematician, naval architect, or engineer performing complex, in-depth, all-source, scientific and technical intelligence (S&TI) analysis on naval platforms and/or systems. This position is located at the FARRAGUT TECHNICAL ANALYSIS CENTER in Suitland, MD.
Duties
You will apply engineering skills within an engineering subject area to assess the technical characteristics (design, performance, capabilities, and limitations) of foreign missile systems and missile components.
You will perform complex, in-depth, all-source, scientific and technical intelligence analysis on naval platforms and/or systems.
You will apply engineering, modeling, and mathematical skills to contribute to engineering assessments of the assigned platform/systems, their associated components, and technologies.
You will identify intelligence gaps and identify the appropriate collection vehicle to fill the gaps. Uses all available intelligence collection methods and systems, their capabilities and limitations, and appropriate tasking methods.
You will serve as the technical program manager for external assistance contracts in support of the division, as needed.
You will develop, tailor, prepare, and present intelligence assessments in written reports, briefs, and other tailored products.
You will apply software intensive skills (including data analysis, data processing, and software tool development) to solve novel analytic/technical problems.
You will learn and maintain aerospace principles (aerodynamics, propulsion, controls, etc.) or missile system/sub-system design (engines, decision logic, communications, electronic warfare, sensors, radar, optical infrared imaging, etc).

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following duties:
1. Apply engineering, modeling, and mathematical skills to contribute to engineering assessments of assigned platform/systems, their associated components, and technologies.
2. Resolve complex technical challenges related to software engineering tasks, e.g., software development, software testing, and system engineering.
3. Use innovative scientific and all-source analysis methodologies and processes for application to complex and comprehensive assessments of naval platform/systems capabilities and performance.

To be acceptable, the program must:(1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished(1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and(2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1, or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. GG-1520-13 Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
GG-1550-13 Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Evaluation of Education
Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
