About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Pharmacy Technician, providing supply, technical, and administrative support for the Pharmacy Service of Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), e.g. Ambulatory or Health Care facility. Incumbent is responsible for governing supply regulations, policies and procedures applicable to a pharmaceutical supply system. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Manage, monitor and evaluate pharmacy supply operations to determine appropriateness of receipt, storage and order of pharmaceuticals and the application of improved supply methods. Recommend changes for improving the efficiency of the medical treatment facilities bulk distribution system. Review, analyze and interprets changes in regulations, policies and guidelines to determine impact on organizational goals. Educate medical facility staff in proper storage, access, and security of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs. Ensure proper and timely processing and reconciliation of payments and credits. Manage the pharmacy computer system, using knowledge of automated pharmacy computer systems and software including inventory control and ordering systems, such as the inventory management and Prime Vendor (PV). Gather drug information, prepare stock record files, add and delete drugs from files, and develop ad hoc reports. Operate, maintain, and train employees on the PV computer systems. Perform bulk compounding, compounding extemporaneous pharmaceutical formulations for internal, external, and intravenous use, and for filling prescriptions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes filling prescriptions, ordering pharmaceuticals, monitoring stock levels in a pharmacy, and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level education in Pharmacology or a related field of study, from an accredited college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 18. Add the two percentages.
