About the Position: This position is located in Preventive Medicine, Army Medical Center Womack, Fort Liberty, NC. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Plan and execute epidemiological surveillance, analytical projects, communicable disease outbreak investigations, and public health investigations. Develop preventive measures to reduce public health concerns in military beneficiary populations. Conduct continuous surveillance of available medical informational databases and maintain integrity of internal tracking and data sources. Investigate field epidemiological studies, statistically analyzing data and interpret and document findings. Design a plan of action (i.e. project design and objectives), selecting and applying the most promising approach, making necessary modifications or implementing new approaches to solve novel problems. Prepare technical reports, publications and other data, for dissemination within military medical community channels. Provide advice and expertise in epidemiology, surveillance, and health related outcomes and develop recommendations regarding injury and illness reduction techniques, and surveillance methods.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Epidemiologist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: developing epidemiological activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases; execute public health investigations/program evaluations involving surveys assessing injury risk factors; and analyze epidemiological data to guide public health practice. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
