The incumbent serves as a Student Trainee with the Office of Performance, Planning, and the Chief Financial Officer. The incumbent may be duty stationed in Washington, DC or Denver, CO. The duty station will be finalized upon selection. Assignments are selected to provide developmental experience enabling the student to perform a variety of assignments of financial and accounting activities to support the efficiency of operations in the office.
Duties
This position is established under the Small Business Administration (SBA) Intern Program. At the successful conclusion/completion of the Internship program, the student may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position. If converted, the student must meet the qualifications of the position being converted into at the GS-07 grade level.

As a Student Trainee, you will actively engage in the following duties:
Research accounts and account transactions to develop ad hoc reports not readily available to accountants.
Processes a variety of collection and accounting transactions for all loan programs by examining and verifying collection data and accounting changes submitted for processing; determines appropriate accounting transaction codes.
Reconciles account balances with related data to assure agreement
Prepares reports of financial activity by reviewing summaries of transactional processing.
Salary by location: This announcement reflects the GS base salary. The actual salary will be based on the selectee's location, grade, and step.
Salary Range-Denver, CO: $54,505 - $70,859
Salary Range-Washington, DC: $55,924 - $72,703

Qualifications
Student Internship Program Eligibility:
Current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
To be eligible for appointment to a position in the Small Business Administration (SBA) Internship Program, throughout the duration of the appointment, an individual must:
Be currently enrolled or accepted as a student on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.
Be seeking a degree that is relevant to the position.
Grade qualifications must be met prior to start date.
Must meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their internship appointment.
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience prior to completion of degree.
Students who have graduated are not eligible for this position.
If selected you:
must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement;
may be employed throughout the academic year;
must maintain status as a current student;
maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.
must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and
must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term.
For the GS-7:
Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-5 or equivalent level: 1.) Plans and prioritizes a wide variety of administrative work; 2) Reviews documents to verify accounting information and system entry; 3) Supports an organization's administrative functions. These qualifications must be clearly referenced on your resume.
OR
Education: Completed 1 full year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work; OR I possess a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement: SAA is defined as (1) cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 years of undergraduate study; (2) GPA of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years; (3) Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision; or (4) Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies). You must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to support this option. You MUST submit transcripts (official or unofficial) with this application if you wish to qualify based on education. If selected, official transcripts will be required.
OR
Combination of Education & Experience: Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience to meet total qualification requirements. NOTE: Only graduate level education (beyond 4 years of under-graduate level education earned) is creditable. You MUST submit transcripts (official or unofficial) with this application if you wish to qualify based on education.
