The Lead Security Assistant position is located in Police Services at Lt. Col Luke Weathers Jr.VA Medical Center., Memphis, TN. The primary purpose of the position is to lead a team of Security Assistants responsible for monitoring physical security equipment and systems.
Duties
As the Lead Security Assistant, the incumbent's duties include, but are not limited to:
Leads a team of security assistants in carrying out day-to-day work operations.
Identifies, distribute, and balance workload and tasks among employees.
Trains or arranges for training necessary to accomplish individual and team tasks.
Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work
Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator.
Maintains program and administrative reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and makes available policies, procedures and written instructions from the supervisor.
Responsible to address and remediate simple complaints or escalate them to the supervisor.
Represents the team in dealings with the supervisor or manager for obtaining resources and securing needed information or decisions from the supervisor on issues that arise
Report to the supervisor periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs.
Recommends actions such as: assignments, reassignments, promotions, tour of duty changes, etc.
Performs alarm and access monitoring, trace access patterns, and assign or remove user permissions.
Opens and secures doors remotely during routine and emergency operations.
Assesses on-scene behavior and determines when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate.
Responsible for responding to alarm systems monitoring fire, access, intrusion, duress/panic, medical emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, medical assist teams, etc.; and emergency digital paging system.
Maintains radio/alarm activity records/logs.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/28/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge specific security or law enforcement objectives, programs, methods, and procedures, and skills in carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration.
Knowledge of the mission and objectives of Police Services, physical security systems, and procedures to
support operations and the work of other staff.
Knowledge of VA and VHA policies and procedures related to security procedures.
Knowledge to monitor and respond to physical alarm systems and security cameras to include troubleshooting basic
equipment problems.
Knowledge of how the various alarm systems operate and interconnect with the overall VAMC physical security monitoring.
system to identify and resolve security risks.

Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts
or regular overtime may be required.
