This position is a BIOLOGIST, GS- 0401-11/12 working for the R2-New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office. Position will be filled in Albuquerque, New Mexico or Farmington, New Mexico.
Duties
As a BIOLOGIST your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
This position will implement and manage activities associated with the Four Corners Power Plant and Navajo Mine Energy Project Biological Opinion.
One of the main purposes of this position is to support the goal of the San Juan River Basin Recovery Implementation Program (Program) to recover Colorado Pikeminnow and Razorback Sucker
Activities associated with this position entail development of management or research activities to support species recovery, administer contracts, assess scientific data, serve as a field liaison for principal investigators within the San Juan River basin, and conduct field work on various waterways in remote locations.
Other duties include implementing the Endangered Species Act (listing, recovery, and section 7 consultation), implementing adaptive management provisions, and ensuring Program activities and projects are efficiently and effectively achieving Program goals, as well as pursue education and outreach opportunities.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
Possess a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
Possess a combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field.
Minimum Qualification [GS-11]
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Participate in investigations to determine the impact of various land and water development projects upon the fish and/or wildlife resources of an area; 2) Assist with species status summaries and assessments, conservation plans, environmental assessments, or other scientific documents related to management of endangered, threatened, or at risk species; 3) Conduct site visits and studies as necessary to document pre-and post- recovery activities conditions; 4) Develop and maintain effective working relationships and liaison with private landowners, tribes, other federal, state, and local agencies, and the public regarding habitat restoration; 5) Participate in implementation of federal environmental laws (i.e., Endangered Species Act, specifically sections 7 and 10; Clean Water Act; Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act; National Environmental Policy Act), regulations, and policies involving natural resource issues; and 6) Prepare briefing statements, reports, correspondence, and presentations. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified; OR
Completed 3 years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a directly related field appropriate to this position; OR
Possess an equivalent combination of professional experience and graduate level education beyond the second year which together equals 100% of the requirements.
Minimum Qualification [GS-12]
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Lead investigations to determine the impact of various land and water development projects upon the fish and/or wildlife resources of an area; 2) Independently prepare species status summaries and assessments, conservation plans, environmental assessments, scientific manuscripts or other scientific documents related to management of endangered, threatened, or at risk species; 3) Extensive experience working with native fish, and aquatic communities and their conservation and recovery; 4) Lead negotiations for alternative actions when implementing federal environmental laws (i.e., Endangered Species Act, specifically sections 7 and 10; Clean Water Act; Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act; National Environmental Policy Act), regulations, and policies involving natural resource issues; and 5) Lead teams with diverse partnership. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified.

Education
PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.
PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
