The incumbent serves as the primary shift supervisor and will be directly responsible for the supervision of all food service activities and coordinates the activities of the Food Service Workers in the different elements of the Food Service Section.
Duties
Responsible for efficient overall sanitation throughout all food production service areas.
Conducts menu conferences and completes assignment schedules as required.
Requisitions all supplies needed for the different areas in food service.
Conducts final check of trays to ensure correct foods, temperature and portions as appropriate.
Supervises the food service activities of production and service areas to ensure proper work methods are utilized.
Completes the tray assembly area report.
Monitors and ensures that the proper procedures are communicated and carried.
Oversees work performance of employees, discusses work performance and issues, and provides guidance.
Instructs subordinates on difficult work operations.
Provides instruction in correct sanitation and cleaning procedures, such as how to mop a floor, how to clean stainless steel, etc.
Carries out the responsibilities of the position within general instructions, standard procedures and established policies.
Changes work plans, work assignments and work methods as necessary to reduce or control costs and accomplish the work.
Maintains inventory of food service supplies and equipment. Receives and inspect food deliveries.
Makes recommendations for the purchase of small equipment and supplies to ensure that the appropriate materials are available to do the job.
Provides individual and/or group instruction for employees in the correct care and maintenance of food service equipment.
Reviews work while in progress or on completion to ensure the correct portion sizes, serving dishes, etc., have been used.
Possesses knowledge on the correct foods to be served on modified diets.
Estimates food and beverages use/consumption to anticipate amounts to be purchased.
Provides guidance and assistance for lower grade employees in making decision when assembling patient trays.
Ensures that all food supply items required are available for meeting the meal service schedule.
Ensures employees adhere to safety policies and procedures when performing manual work involving lifting, carrying, transporting and delivering food or other items.
Spot checks the activities in all areas where meals and nourishment supplies are distributed to ensure quality and timeliness standards are met.
Conducts all quality assurance monitors and sanitation reviews in accordance with established procedures.
Recognizes typical health and safety hazards for yourself and other workers around you.
Work Schedule: Multiple Schedules. Tour will be discussed in interview.

Critical Skills Incentive: This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through 9/21/2024. Candidates may be eligible for a 20% lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The Food Service Worker Supervisor performs work requiring light to moderate physical effort. They may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. They are subject to continuous sitting, standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 40 pounds with the assistance of others.
