Duties

Perform final and in progress calibration and measurement inspections. Conduct certification on final acceptance and in-process gages, jigs, fixtures and measuring equipment. Determine the accuracy of items and initiates applicable reports. Review drawings on gages, jigs and fixtures for correlation of design function and mathematical computation with component drawings. Make recommendations to elements of the work force in support of continuous improvement and decisions relating to interpretation of procedures. Recommend changes and identify discrepancies concerning precision measurements and techniques. Ensure preparation and/or update of gauge record cards and initiate and maintain all required reports relative to assigned tasks.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Precision Calibration/Measurement Inspector without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes: interpreting written technical data packages to determine inspection requirements; calibrating manufactured and repaired equipment; correlating design function and mathematical computations with component drawings; using precision measuring equipment such as; length measuring machine, gage blocks, sine bar/plate, angle blocks, internal and external measuring equipment, optical contour projector, optical flats, devising lead, harness tester, profilometer and thread checker. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Applies close mental application and exacting hand and eye coordination for prolonged periods in order to accomplish a consistent high level of accuracy. Working Conditions: Air Conditioned work area provides good working conditions. On occasion, work assignments require incumbent to be around machinery in manufacturing area.
