Duties

If selected, you will serve as a Financial Litigation Technician in the Financial Litigation Program, Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Michigan. Typical work assignments will include: A wide range of complex technical support duties involving the processing of cases within the financial litigation function; Examining and processing debtor documents, records, and legal instruments; Conducting document searches, organizing documents, preparing subpoenas, conducting document review, and coordinating document production; Analyzing claims to determine the type of indebtedness to record and maintaining proper debtor and account information; Investigating complicated financial assets and transactions and providing comparative analyses of information obtained in furtherance of the investigation or furnished by debtors; Interpreting and enforcing judgements in criminal cases, and independently performing functions to collect amounts imposed as a result of the prosecution of criminal cases; Participating in decision making concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments, judgment debtor examination in aid of execution, or attachment and levy of the debtors property; Draft and/or prepare letters, pleadings and other legal documents, forms, and reports. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-07: In order to qualify for the GS-07 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal Service. Specialized Experience is defined as knowledge of the processes and practices of debt collection regulations and procedure; developing, analyzing, and evaluating routine financial information; using a variety of basic legal regulations, precedents, and practices; reviewing and analyzing claims for legal merit and compliance; conducting factual and legal research in legal and non-legal databases; and conducting document searches, organizing documents, preparing legal documents, and conducting document review. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
