You will serve as a TECHNICIAN of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-3 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-09 and GS-10. The NT-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-11 and GS-12.

Duties

You will prepare established testing programs, equipment and procedures to determine the characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of systems and to evaluate proper performance You will prepare design specifications for systems/models; develop test plans; and determine and select materials and methods to establish cost effective setups You will develop fixturing methods and weld procedures called for in fabrication drawings and specifications. You will determine proper weld parameters including, heat input range, travel speeds, voltage and amperage to be used for a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including aluminum alloys and/or high strength steels. You will analyze and determine the requirements for preheating, Interpass temperatures and post weld soaking to ensure proper strength and prevent post weld cracking. You will design, build, or research specialized tooling and tooling fixtures to be used to support the production of complex components. You will work with oral instructions, sketches, incomplete drawings, complex drawings or written instructions to check proper tolerances, fits, finishes, clearances, materials and dimensions. You will interpret complex engineered drawings, sketches and verbal communications. You will be required to be familiar with weld joint nondestructive testing inspection processes including visual, magnetic particle, ultrasound, dye penetrant, and x-ray inspections. You will need to have extensive experience with fabrication of custom fixtures to maintain shape of welded structures, particularly cylindrical pieces with multiple seams. You will be required to use precision measurement instrumentation including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, ultrasonic thickness equipment, and tool develop go/no go gauges to be used in the fabrication process.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position on occasion performs work in industrial settings where the potential for hazards exists. However, the use of engineering controls, materials substitution, and personal protective equipment reduce or eliminate hazard exposure.
  • This position requires a successful completion and passing of the J1 vision test.
  • You will be required to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 80 pounds in weight.

Qualifications

TO QUALIFY FOR THE NT-04 POSITION: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 (GS-9/10 equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: providing engineering technical support to prepare design specifications of custom fixtures or components or developing testing plans for ensuring the proper fabrication of products and compliance with operating procedures. TO QUALIFY FOR THE NT-03 POSITION Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-2 (GS-5- 8 Equivalency) grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: providing engineering technical support to assist in the preparation of design specifications of custom fixtures or components for ensuring the proper fabrication of products and compliance with operating procedures.
