This position is located in the United States Agency for Global Media, Voice of America, Horn of Africa Service. The incumbent will serve as a Lead International Broadcaster (Amharic) (Multimedia). The incumbent will be responsible for collaborating with the Managing Editor and Service Chief. They will assign Amharic-language reporters, edit Amharic-language multimedia content, and create rundowns for Amharic-language programming.
Duties
As a Lead International Broadcaster (Amharic) (Multimedia), you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to:
Writes original feature materials on a variety of subjects.
Selects and writes highly targeted program materials or complex and balanced original scripts for broadcasts.
Edits completed radio scripts and material to ensure accuracy of tone, balance, and policy conformance.
Maintains expert knowledge of events in target region to enable strategic assignments.
Independently or in collaboration plans and develops deadlines, projects, and work to be completed by subordinates.
Exercises a high degree of initiative and judgement in deciding the content and tone of daily multimedia programs.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S Citizen or U.S. National.
- This is a public trust position. If selected, this position requires the completion of the SF-86.

Qualifications
Screen out factor: Applicant must have fluency in both English and Amharic languages that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration.
Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-12 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Mastery of radio and Internet broadcasting principles, practices, and methods.
Experience with editorial skill to direct the development and production of complex programs for content, style, and tone.
Thorough understanding of world events, including US foreign policies toward the targeted area and the region.
Knowledge of Africa, its history, economic culture, and socio-political development.
Education
Education is not required for this grade level. It cannot be used for qualification purposes.
