About the Position: Serves as Assistant Dean of Academics at the Sergeants Major Academy and senior advisor to the SGM-A Commandant of the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence, to coordinate activities and represent the CGSC Dean of Academics (Chief Academic Officer, Army U) with full responsibility for implementation and developmental policy for Programs of Instructions SGM-A courses, resident distance learning Sergeants Major Course, International Military Student Pre-course, etc.
Duties
Supports over 2300 students annually in its resident distance learning population, with a full-time faculty of over 130 civilian, military, and contracted personnel.
Synchronizes the review, updates and processing of all Course Administrative Documents (CAD) related documents and participates in the Structure Manning Decision Review (SMDR) to ensure programmed resource allocations are validated.
Serves as an academic faculty member regularly supervising graduate-level research and teaching classes.
Supervises the effort to achieve academic accreditation for the CGSC as an undergraduate degree granting program at the Sergeants Major Academy (SGM-A).
Prepares and submits for Commandant approval Sergeants Major Academy (SGM-A) policy and procedures, as well as supervising programs and planning the overall training operations of the directorate and its subordinate sections.
Manages the Academic accreditation program, overseeing all course accreditation including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Process for Accreditation of Joint Education, TRADOC, and the Higher Learning Commission.
Serves as the Non-commissioned Officer Leadership Center of Excellence SGM-A Functional Community 32 (CP-32) manager.
Directly supervises the Chief of Education and academic execution. accreditation standards, (TRADOC and Higher Learning Commission) degree programs, academic outreach, the Fellowship Program, Learning Resource Center, Ethicist, and the Registrar.
Serves as the Determination Official (DO) and reviews research submitted by SGM-A students to determine whether proposed research studies involve human subjects research (HSR).
Directs, assigns, coordinates, and oversees work functions through subordinate supervisors makes subordinate employee appointments, promotions, and reassignments.

- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Basic Requirement for Assistant Dean of Academics:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, such as Education.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, such as Education, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described in A above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Experience overseeing curriculum development and integration between various schools 2) experience with faculty development, curriculum development; internal assessment and evaluation 3) experience with accreditation standards; academic research; and academic outreach 4) experience determining whether contractor performed work meets standards of adequacy necessary for authorization of payment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
