You will serve as a Nondestructive Test (NDT) Inspector Leader in the NDT Section (C/630) of the Quality Assurance Branch (C/600) at the Trident Refit Facility (TRF) in Bangor, WA.
Duties
You will independently perform nondestructive testing and analysis on complex and non-routine mechanical components, piping systems, and structural assemblies.
You will utilize the most advanced test methods and procedures in solving inspection problems.
You will inspect newly acquired items and complete in-service monitoring in both laboratory and field settings.
You will acquire and record test results and data using enhanced signal processing and acquisition software on state of the art computer-based platforms.
You will verify and sign off on Discrepancy Reports which contain documented discrepancies.
You will perform calibration and safety checks of test equipment prior to and after performance of nondestructive testing inspections.
You will conduct radiographic operations and/or serve as Radiographer-in-Charge (RIC) for nuclear and non-nuclear radiographic inspections.
You will make a wide range of critical decisions on matters concerning the acceptance or rejection of work performed by highly skilled craftsmen and other inspectors, independent of and without consultation with a supervisor.
You will be responsible for assuring materials, processes and fabrication techniques meet specification and contractual requirements.
You will exercise skill and ingenuity inspect prototypes accomplishing untried tasks and independently troubleshoot a wide array of inspection techniques for various alloys and component configurations.
Requirements
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to ascend and descend ladders.
- This position requires that inspections be performed in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time in standing, stooping, or crouching positions which could cause muscular effort or physical strains.
- The selectee must possess muscular coordination, visual acuity and be emotionally stable to make decisions in unusual situations.
- This position may require lifting and carrying generally not in excess of 44 pounds.
- This position requires the completion of duties in areas where the selectee may receive the legal maximum exposure to ionizing radiation. Will be required to meet the physical and training requirements to become a qualified radiation worker.
- This position requires the usage of special protective clothing including rubber boots, coveralls, and several pairs of rubber gloves.
