You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety, Health and Environment Branch (Code 1460.1) in the Technical Support Division (Code 1460), Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400), Philadelphia, PA of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan and conduct surveys of production operations and facilities to evaluate the effectiveness of safety and health requirements and practices in the work environment. You will determine and advise on OSHE requirements for detachment production processes to ensure that work is accomplished in a safe, healthful, environmentally compliant manner. You will serve as a principle OSHE advisor to senior managers on assigned projects or programs. You will assume program management coordination responsibilities of assigned safety programs. You will conduct independent accident investigations of all classes and categories of accidents to determine and analyze contributing factors and recommend corrective measures.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience implementing and overseeing assigned safety and health programs with minimal supervision and ensures all records are maintained in accordance with applicable requirements, incorporates requirements of Federal, Navy, State and Local regulations to mitigate workplace hazards. Experience reviewing submitted plans for compliance with safety, health, fire protection, and environmental requirements and provides recommendations for revisions to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved. Experience developing and delivering course material to promote safety awareness throughout the facility and satisfy regulatory requirements. Experience conducting independent accident / incident investigations to determine contributing factors and proposes / implements corrective actions to leadership. Experience collecting and analyzing safety trends and metrics to highlight areas requiring additional oversight and presents findings to leadership.
