Duties

As a Epidemiologist (Data Scientist) you will: Plan and conduct, as project lead or member of a study team, relevant research and analytical studies of Centers/Institutes problems to support critical operational problems and/or decisions for robotic, autonomy or artificial intelligence programs and initiatives. Identify study's objectives, define requirements, metrics, measures of effectiveness, and expected outcomes; identify and/or develop innovative and effective approaches and methodologies; apply advanced operations research and data science techniques for quantitative analysis, statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modeling, prescriptive analysis, and optimization; and validate analysis and outcomes. Provide scientific advice and technical assistance to various public, private, and/or nonprofit health and/or health-related agencies and organizations. Serve as technical expert with respect to all phases of statistical interpretation relating to viral hepatitis and special study data.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: coordinating, implementing, and conducting epidemiological/surveillance studies and providing scientific advice to health-related organizations on surveillance and epidemiological programs relating to public health issues. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
