This position is located in the Office of Commissioner Anna Gomez, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), located in Washington, DC. THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED APPOINTMENT. SERVES AT THE PLEASURE OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR A PERIOD OF NOT MORE THAN 5 YEARS. RELOCATION EXPENSES NOT AUTHORIZED. Announcement will close upon receiving 100 applications or when the announcement closes, whichever occurs first.  THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL POSITIONS WITHIN 90 DAYS.

Duties

Performs a wide variety of administrative and technical services for the Commissioner's Office, including being responsible for the performance of administrative support functions and associated activity coordination tasks for the Commissioner or her advisory staff.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service.

  • May serve a one year probationary period (if applicable)
  • Suitable for employment as determined by a background investigation.

  • Must possess a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute

Qualifications

Applicants must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.   Candidates must meet all of the specialized experience requirements outlined below in order to be deemed as qualified. Specialized Experience GS-9 In order to be deemed as qualified, candidates must have one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to the GS-8 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: 1) receiving visitors and answering telephone calls from a diverse group of individuals (e.g., congressional staff, representatives of international organizations and/or foreign governments, other high-ranking government and industry officials); 2) responding to inquiries on a wide range of topics from a wide variety of individuals within and outside the organization; 3) maintaining appointment schedules, and arranging conferences, events, and meetings for a high level official (e.g., top agency official, executive, CEO) and their staff; 4) maintaining filing systems and automated tracking systems, and 5) preparing travel documents for domestic and international travel. GS-10In order to be deemed as qualified, candidates must have one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: 1) receiving visitors and answering telephone calls from a diverse group of individuals (e.g., congressional staff, representatives of international organizations and/or foreign governments, other high-ranking government and industry officials); 2) researching and compiling information to independently respond to inquiries on a wide range of topics from a wide variety of individuals within and outside the organization; 3) maintaining appointment schedules, and arranging conferences, events and meetings for a high level official (e.g., top agency official, executive, CEO) and their staff; 4) developing and maintaining filing systems and automated tracking systems, and 5) preparing travel documents for domestic and internal travel. GS-11In order to be deemed as qualified, candidates must have one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Experience serving in a lead role such as Office Manager, Confidential/Executive Assistant, Secretary or Administrative Assistant in which you were responsible for the administrative and clerical responsibilities of the office performance and/or overseeing a wide range of assignments including: 1) receiving visitors and answering telephone calls from a diverse group of individuals (e.g., congressional staff, representatives of international organizations and/or foreign governments, other high-ranking government and industry officials); 2) researching and compiling information to respond to inquiries either orally or in writing on a wide range of topics from a wide variety of individuals within and outside the organization; 3) maintaining appointment schedules, and arranging conferences, events, and meetings for a high level official (e.g., top agency official, executive, CEO) and their staff; 4) developing and maintaining filing systems and automated tracking systems, and 5) preparing travel documents for domestic and internal travel. You will be evaluated for this position on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs): Ability to work effectively with a variety of personnel at all levels, including the highest executive levels, both within and outside the organization. Knowledge of applicable computer systems such as Power Point, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, Access, etc. Ability to prepare and maintain reports. Ability to prepare time and attendance cards for the Commissioner and the staff using automated system. Ability to perform clerical and administrative duties and responsibilities such as coordinating travel arrangements, screening calls and visitors, responding to telephonic and/or written inquiries, scheduling appointments and meetings, etc. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
