The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal advice, counsel, and representation to support DOT’s safety responsibilities & transformative investments that modernizes our infrastructure & deliver cleaner & more equitable transportation systems. The Office assists in developing effective statutory & regulatory solutions to confront transportation challenges. The Office coordinates DOT’s legislative efforts, litigation, and international legal matters.

As a Staff Assistant, you will:

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet either the education or experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration. To qualify for the GS-09 on Experience, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-07 it must include:
Experience performing specialized office tasks in administrative and clerical support functions that include customer service; correspondence management, tracking information and documents; records management; managing calendars and meeting schedules for supervisor and managerial staff; and coordinating travel.
To qualify for the GS-09 on Education alone, you must have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or have been awarded a master's or equivalent graduate degree. You can also qualify based on a combination of graduate education and experience. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application. To qualify for the GS-11 on Experience, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-09 it must include:
Experience performing specialized office tasks in administrative and clerical support functions that include correspondence management, tracking information and documents; records management; managing calendars and meeting schedules for supervisor and managerial staff; and coordinating domestic and international travel.
Experience implementing administrative support procedures;
Experience researching and organizing factual information and preparing informational briefings, reports, and graphics based on findings from your research.
To qualify for the GS-11 on Education alone, you must have: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. You can also qualify based on a combination of higher level graduate education and experience. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Clerical - Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.
Computer Skills - Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
Administration and Management - Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.
Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
