This position is part of the Deputy Administrator for Naval Reactors, Department of Energy. National Nuclear Security Administration Demonstration Project: This position is covered by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Demonstration Project. The NN-04 pay band is equivalent to the GS-14-15 grade levels. As a Nuclear Engineer, you will:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment may be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 level (or equivalent) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of nuclear propulsion, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering applicable to the full range of engineering duties concerned with the administration, management, planning, and evaluation of contractor activities involving health and safety precautions, propulsion plant design changes and ship construction. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade/pay band any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade/pay band requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For an NN-04 position you must have served 52 weeks at a GS-13 level or equivalent. The grade/pay band may have been in any occupation and must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade/pay band eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade/pay band, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide additional SF-50s that clearly demonstrates the one-year time-in-grade/pay band requirement has been met. Education

EDUCATION: You MUST provide transcripts to support your education claims. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEER:
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering OR
  • Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate professional field, provided you have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. OR
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. OR
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico allows eligibility only if your registration is within or closely related to nuclear engineering.
