This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB/MRTFB Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Rebuild, overhaul, and repair gasoline and diesel engine powered heavy mobile equipment and vehicles.
Repair automatic and non-automatic transmissions and brake systems.
Repair hydraulic operating systems and controls.
Test completed repair or modification work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires you to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate and complies with safety and health directives.
- This position requires certification to service and repair Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) type refrigerant motor vehicle air conditioning systems.
- This position requires you to obtain a government operator’s permit for incidental operation of all equipment maintained and for full operation of vehicles up to 26,000 gross vehicle weight, diesel, and electric forklifts.
Qualifications
About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position serves as Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including performing preventive maintenance for gasoline and diesel engine powered heavy mobile equipment and vehicles for prevention mechanical problems, such as replacing spark plugs and changing or replenishing engine fluids and filters; changing or replenishing transmission fluid and replacing brake pads; and adding hydraulic fluid to hydraulic operating systems. I can use some diagnostic tools such as micrometers, and pressure gauges to determine minimal engine malfunctions for repairs. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
The incumbent works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods, with frequent bending, teaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching; sometimes works on the top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions; does strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting; frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 or 50 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and tools; often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise which is difficult to talk above. When outside, may sometimes work in bad weather, in mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas. Both inside and outside, is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground and works on parts and systems which are dirty, oily, or greasy; frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Is often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants.
