Duties
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: As an Occupational Health Nurse for NGA, you will have diverse and challenging opportunities in occupational health for experienced nurses who enjoy a varied practice in travel medicine, OSHA programs, acute employee health care, pre and post deployments, and emergency preparedness. You will provide a range of occupational health services, such as identifying and assessing occupational and non-occupational illness and injuries. You will also administer a full range of immunizations and provide medical information to those traveling overseas. Utilizing your experience and education, you will respond to medical emergencies, provide emergency medical assessments and interventions independently, plus inspect and maintain routine\emergency supplies and equipment. You will also be involved in implementing regular health education programs to comply with federal regulations and to meet organizational needs. This entails conducting and supporting OSHA mandated programs, administering spirometric testing, hearing exams, EKGs, etc., in addition to providing individual counseling to employees on disease prevention and health promotion.Below are activities nurses perform on a typical day:Assessing, observing, and speaking to patientsRecording details and symptoms of patient medical history and current healthPreparing patients for exams and treatmentAdministering vaccines and immunizations, then monitoring patients for side effects and reactionsCreating, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans with the medical teamPerforming wound care, such as cleaning and bandaging themAssisting in medical procedures as neededOperating and monitoring medical equipmentDrawing blood, urine samples, and other body fluids for lab workOther additional clinical and administrative duties as required.Additional Application Requirement: You may be asked to complete one or more assessments in addition to the application you submit on this website as part of your application to NGA. Qualifications
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following (i.e., primary care, medical/surgical, critical care, emergency, public health, and/or occupational health nursing).2. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following (i.e., intake assessments including extensive history and physical assessments, lab drawing, immunization administration, and/or exam room turnovers).3. Demonstrated experience prioritizing tasks in a complex and fast paced environment.4. Demonstrated experience communicating verbally.5. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or equal BLS certification.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Demonstrated experience using standard screening and diagnostic instruments in primary care and/or occupational health setting.2. Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: occupational health nursing principles, methods, ethics, and/or techniques.3. Demonstrated experience entering and/or updating medical records in an electronic medical records database.4. Demonstrated knowledge of federal rules, regulations and procedures relating to medical clearances for overseas assignments and medical examinations.
