Duties
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: As an Occupational Health Nurse for NGA, you will have diverse and challenging opportunities in occupational health for experienced nurses who enjoy a varied practice in travel medicine, OSHA programs, acute employee health care, pre and post deployments, and emergency preparedness. You will provide a range of occupational health services, such as identifying and assessing occupational and non-occupational illness and injuries. You will also administer a full range of immunizations and provide medical information to those traveling overseas. Utilizing your experience and education, you will respond to medical emergencies, provide emergency medical assessments and interventions independently, plus inspect and maintain routine\emergency supplies and equipment. You will also be involved in implementing regular health education programs to comply with federal regulations and to meet organizational needs. This entails conducting and supporting OSHA mandated programs, administering spirometric testing, hearing exams, EKGs, etc., in addition to providing individual counseling to employees on disease prevention and health promotion.Below are activities nurses perform on a typical day:Assessing, observing, and speaking to patients;Recording details and symptoms of patient medical history and current health;Preparing patients for exams and treatment;Administering vaccines and immunizations, then monitoring patients for side effects and reactions;Creating, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans with the medical team;Performing wound care, such as cleaning and bandaging them;Assisting in medical procedures as needed;Operating and monitoring medical equipment;Drawing blood, urine samples, and other body fluids for lab work; andOther additional clinical and administrative duties as required.Occupational Health Nurses support clinical requirements as mission needs mandate and are expected to maintain required certifications along with knowledge, skills, and expertise through professional development activities. Qualifications
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: critical care, emergency nursing, public health nursing and/or occupational health nursing.2. Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: occupational health nursing principles, methods, ethics, and/or techniques.3. Demonstrated skills in one or more of the following: performing audiometry and/or spirometry tests, ergonomic worksite evaluations, standard screening and/or diagnostic instruments used in a primary care and/or occupational health setting.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience; or a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; or at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. - AND - LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; Prolonged periods of standing.ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENT: Working around infectious persons/materials.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Certifications in one or more of the following: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and/or Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).2. Five or more years' experience as a licensed nurse supporting the federal government.3. Demonstrated expertise in written and oral communication in order to prepare and present findings.4. Demonstrated experience entering and/or updating medical records in an electronic medical records database. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of COCOM and U.S. State Department rules, regulations and procedures concerning medical clearances for overseas assignments and medical examinations.
