About the Position: Serves as Facility Operations Specialist for the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) by providing a wide scope and variety of museum facility operations services, ranging from daily operations to lifecycle management of complex mechanical systems.
Duties
Manages facility management resources, to include maintenance, custodial, snow and ice removal, building and occupational safety, landscaping, environmental, bulk trash, plumbing, and pest control for the museum.
Determines repair projects and annual work plan scope of work considering operability, adaptability, ease and cost of maintenance
Controls the approved budget, to include the formulation and implementation of sustainable operations and maintenance plans, which often requires modifications, additions for new equipment site preparation, and service modifications.
Ensures the maintenance of a safe environment and implements systematic processes that identify and eliminate safety hazards to personnel and visitors.
Supports institutional preparation for emergency and disaster response by developing plans for building, equipment, and utility recovery.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- TDY up to 15% of the time.
- This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential. This position must ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal Service which includes experience: 1.) Managing a maintenance program for an office or building complex; 2.) Planning maintenance activities and developing preventative maintenance programs; 3.) Analyzing data to improve facility operations; and 4.) Ensuring consistent and thorough inspections are completed on facilities.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Physical Requirements:
Work requires some physical exertion, including long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. May require above average agility and dexterity.
Work Environment:
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines. Regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts, such as high levels of noise, adverse weather, and risks due to ongoing construction, movement of heavy construction equipment, inspections, and climbing at higher altitudes.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
