The purpose of the position is to perform work on conventional/typical preservation projects for a variety of historic structures. This entails the full gamut of types, and includes some new construction, major restoration or rehabilitation, complete stabilization, significant alteration, etc. Pay Rates George Washington Birthplace National Monument, $29.23 - $34.12 per hour Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, $30.42 - $35.47 per hour Valley Forge Natl Hist Park, $29.70 - 34.69 per hour

Duties

Use of planers, table saws, jointers, radial saws, band saws, and shapers. Maintain the full range of hand and power masonry tools i.e. skill saw, electric drill, router, chainsaw, sander, table saw, jointer, radial saw, bandsaw, planer, shaper, floor sander, and surfacing machines. Repair, reconstruct, restore, and rehabilitate masonry structures by performing work such as stabilizing or constructing foundations, walls, chimneys, fireplace, and other building elements. Replicate antique and highly skilled forms of craftsmanship using specialized tools. Read, interpret and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, working drawings and building codes. Compute curves, arcs, tangents, and possess advanced knowledge of carpentry and masonry skills utilizing accepted trade methods and techniques. Select appropriate stone and mortar materials to closely match historic fabric in color, texture, and composition, with ability to apply selected materials in a manner appropriate to historic character. Assist with the inspection of historic structures/sites/landscapes on site to determine physical condition and the type and amount of maintenance required to maintain in proper condition. Area Information Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (two locations), location in Page, AZ is located on the Arizona-Utah border 135 miles north of Flagstaff, AZ, the nearest larger community. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon NRA offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks: Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. Elevation:4300 ft. City of Page - Welcome to the City of Page, Arizona Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, location in Lees Ferry is located near Marble Canyon, AZ. Lees Ferry is about 50 miles from the nearest town of Page, AZ, and 130 miles north of Flagstaff, AZ, the nearest larger community. Lees Ferry is situated along the beautiful Colorado River, 15 miles downstream of the Glen Canyon Dam, and is the launching point for Colorado River trips. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon NRA offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Lees Ferry is centrally located to many other public lands, such as the Grand Canyon North Rim, Vermillion Cliffs, Kaibab National Forest, to name a few. The town of Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, K-12 schools, and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. George Washington Birthplace National Monument, located south of Colonial Beach Virginia, encompasses 550 acres of the former Popes Creek Plantation, which was where George Washington was born and is the American ancestral home of the Washington Family. In addition to a working Colonial Revival farm, visitor center, several historic structures, curatorial facility and maintenance complex, the park also has picnic grounds and a public beach. Numerous recreational activities take place in the park including fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Annual visitation to the Monument is 130,000. Valley Forge National Historical Park, located in King of Prussia, approximately 20 miles northwest of center city Philadelphia, Valley Forge National Historical Park is the site of the 1777-1778 winter encampment of General George Washington and the Continental Army. The park receives 2.2 million visitors each year and contains about 3,500 acres of forested rolling hills, tall grass meadows, wetlands, and rough lawns.
