Job opening: Energy & Climate Finance Internship

DFC's Chief Climate Officer (CCO) is responsible for establishing and driving DFC's agency-wide climate strategy, working to maintain DFI-leading ambition, building a foundation for innovation, and ensuring that DFC's climate investments serve its broader development and geo-strategic mission. The CCO's team partners with finance officers to build a pipeline of climate-focused transactions, while also working across the agency to apply a climate lens to every transaction.

Duties

The Energy & Climate Finance Intern will have the opportunity to apply her training in international finance, economics, business, and/or law, combining both private and public sector interests. This intern will assess policy options, perform basic market research, and provide analysis to inform DFC's ability to accelerate, diversify, and grow its climate investments in emerging markets. Key responsibilities include preparing tech and market landscape analyses designed to inform to DFC's climate investment thesis, drafting memoranda, PowerPoint decks, or papers related to US government climate initiatives and in preparation for meetings. This internship will contribute directly to the President's Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience (PREPARE), the President's Plan to Conserve Global Forests, and the Just Energy Transition Partnerships in South Africa and Indonesia. Additional responsibilities include researching unique climate change and international development challenges, assessing physical climate risks to investments, and performing other tasks for the team as needed. Interns may be assigned special projects such as in-depth research on particular countries and regions or sectors of industry. Internship participants will have the opportunity to learn about transactions across a wide variety of DFC's product lines.

Requirements

  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
  • Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt
  • Must be actively enrolled (at least part-time) in an accredited college or university pursuing a Master's Degree or equivalent
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited institution pursuing an advanced degree studying energy, sustainable development, climate change, development policy, or other related subjects. Experience with climate change concepts such as greenhouse gas accounting and management, relevant sectoral regulatory or policy familiarity, or climate risk assessment would be considered an advantage; experience in project finance and familiarity with challenges arising in the context of climate finance is an added bonus. Strong written, research, and oral communication skills are required.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
