The Electrical Supervisor has the overall responsibility to ensure that Electric Shop personnel accomplish their mission through his/her action and supervision; he/she will work under/report to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. The incumbent has full supervisory responsibility for the training, motivation, and direction of the Electrical Shop in repair, modification, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of all electrical systems and components.

Duties

Major duties include: Supervising an electrical work unit that will provide professional work of a high quality and standard to modify, install, evaluate, repair, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain complex electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Direct the design, installation, calibration, efficient operation, troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance (PM), and periodic overhaul of all electrical systems and components associated with the campus normal and emergency systems, physical access control, lighting, and communications systems. Participates with other supervisors and engineers in planning current and future construction projects, budgetary estimates, and scheduling recommendations for new installations and overhauls of pre-existing systems. Plans the duty, leave, and work assignment schedules of all shop employees. Ensures adequate personnel are on duty at all times to perform the work. Assigns work orally and by Computerized Maintenance Management System work orders, explain work requirements, methods, and procedures, provide advice, assist, and instruct subordinates when necessary. Establish priorities and deadlines based on work schedules, methods and policies established jointly with higher levels of supervision. Acts as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) over numerous major high-cost contracts assigned to the Electrical section. Generates 2237s for standard supplies and consumables. Spot check subordinates' work to ensure adherence to technical, quality and customer standards. Sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather, in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding and cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; and, in close quarters such as crawl spaces. A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The position works from ladders, scaffolding, and hydraulic platforms. Incumbent often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty, and hard to reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50 pounds. The work is performed in all areas of the hospital environment, inside and outside. Work is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is subject to hazard and injury from electrocution and burns. The incumbent is subjected to such hazardous conditions as injury from power driven tools, falling from scaffolds and ladders, temperature extremes, noise, and bad weather conditions. He/she is frequently exposed to the possibilities of cuts, bruises, scratches, broken bones, and burns. Incumbent is subject to asbestos exposure and chemicals which can cause burns or irritation to the skin. Some duties may require incumbent to wear protective equipment and clothing that is heavy and uncomfortable.
