Duties
Works with customers to identify their needs, solve or coordinate the timely resolution of customer orders/support problems, and act as a customer advocate and liaison.
Monitors backorder status reports and personally resolve, or help resolve problem actions not meeting customer requirements.
Investigates, coordinates, and releases Sales Orders that inhibit flow through automated systems.
Applies DLA expedite policy and other operating procedures to expedite the actions within supply chains.
Coordinates the research and tracking of Stock Transfer Orders (STOs) actions to facilitate resolution of backorders or take action to expedite delinquent contracts having an impact on unfilled orders using established policies/guidance.
Coordinates with appropriate service representatives to identify alternative sources of supply, respond to customer requests, and provide advice regarding changes to sales orders as needed.
Collects, evaluates, and summarizes performance data pertaining to specific agency program goals and objectives and those of customers; leads meetings to communicate ideas and solicit feedback toward improving business/customer support operations.
Prepares briefing materials including background information, recommendations, statistical data, charts and graphs; writes detailed reports concerning the status of their assignments and issues identified in the course of performing the work.

Qualifications
To qualify for an Inventory Management Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Dealing with variables such as availability of materials, relationships with other programs, and cost/benefit considerations.
Developing guidance for applying supply policy, procedures, techniques, equipment, and methods to a variety of work situations involving various degrees or levels of supply controls and respond to problems or questions involving implementation of supply guidelines at lower levels.
Experience with transportation programs, functions, distribution center operations and automated systems, and principles/regulations/policies covering the same in order to fulfill the need of the emergency requirement.
Experience in marketing and demand planning techniques as well as of supplier capabilities in order to support analysis of customer requirements.
Experience with retail and inventory management functions, material coordination, awaiting parts (AWP/MICAP) procedures, supporting repair programs and local purchase/local manufacture processes.

Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
