This position serves as the Deputy Dental Chief over the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) Dental Program in the managerial and administrative program direction to professional dental and support staff which perform both standard and difficult complex dentistry in providing corrective preventive and rehabilitative services.

Duties

The incumbent provides leadership, direction and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the clinical functions of the Dental Clinic. The incumbent confers and makes recommendations to the hospital administration pertaining to hospital policy, initiation of new therapies or need for new equipment. Makes oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity, and a diagnosis of pathological or irregular conditions. Performs restoration of simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed material (cement, amalgam, silicate, etc.) Practices prosthetic dentistry by studying patient's mouth to determine type of restoration required; taking mouth impressions and bite registrations for crowns, jackets, dentures and bridges; trying temporary setups in patients' mouth, and fitting and inserting the finished appliances.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Medical Requirement: Applicant must be able to distinguish shades of color. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM REQUIREMENT - GS-0680-13: Completion of a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level, and/or training. OR Your resume must demonstrate at least 3 years of professional dentistry experience and/or training. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement.Examples include:Ensure direct dental services are provided that are of quality and quantity consistent with policies, plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, administer local anesthesia, perform extractions of teeth, perform oral surgery. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
