This position is located in Nursing Division, Integrated Surgical Services of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), Phoenix, Arizona. The incumbent serves as the second level supervisor for the three departments making up the Integrated Surgical Services (ISS): Same Day Surgery/Post Anesthesia Care Unit (SDS/PACU), Operating Room (OR), Central Sterile and Receiving (CSR).
Duties
Prepares schedules and assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of the employees. Is responsible for all disciplinary action within the department.
This position supervises, directs, oversees and coordinates all aspects of the ISS personnel, including supervisors, nursing and other ancillary staff, this includes the Operating room, the post anesthesia care unit, and Central sterilization and receiving.
Serves as the Supervisory Clinical Nurse, exercising specific responsibility to assure that 24-hour nursing care is provided in compliance with various regulatory and professional agencies, including but not limited to, the Joint Commission (TJC) and Association of Operating Room Nurses standards of management of an operative services program.
Provides skilled nursing care directly to patients, including scrubbing and circulating nursing services. Provides call coverage for operative nursing services. Closely observes patients for a condition that may require emergency treatment.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-12:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing leadership and expertise to direct reports in operating room nursing practice, including scrubbing and circulating nursing services; direction, and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of nursing services; promoting the professional practice of nursing using evidence-based practice principles and professional peer review.
