Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Office of the Director, Office of Strategic Engagement, Office of Public Affairs (OPA) in Washington, DC, Sterling, VA OR Jefferson, LA. At the full performance level (GS-13) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Serves as a specialist for internal communications and stakeholder engagement for the planning, development, and coordination of the public affairs aspects of Bureau functions and initiatives. 2. Plans, initiates, and implements comprehensive public affairs campaigns to enhance the understanding of the agency's programs among the general public and specialized groups and organizations. 3. Coordinates national public affairs activities for BSEE program-related issues by conferring with personnel at the bureau headquarters, in the regions, and with other Federal, State and Local government offices to keep informed on matters that relate to public affairs activities. 4. Researches and writes press releases, information releases, fact sheets, web material, articles for newspapers, magazines and scientific journals, video scripts, exhibit content, and other materials for various audiences including media and stakeholders. 5. Plans and coordinates workshops, seminars, and other meetings with various organizations and stakeholder groups to inform them of BSEE program activities and encourage participation in dialogue with the bureau. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Salary Range Information: GS-13: Jefferson, LA: $103, 409 (Step 1) - $134, 435 (Step 10) per annum. Sterling, VA and Washington, DC: $117, 962 (Step 1) - $153, 354 (Step 10) per annum. First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. This vacancy is also announced as BSEE-EEAA-24-JB-212(MP) for those applicants who wish to apply and be considered under Merit Promotion procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the grade to which you are applying. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Developing communication plans designed to educate the public about an organization's initiatives, programs, and operations; Drafting, reviewing and editing communication products such as press releases, press statements, remarks, and speeches and transmits public information to the press, as a spokesperson for an organization; Capturing video and photographic imagery for public affairs products.
