This position is an Electronics Technician assigned to the Technical Branch, Ocean Products Division, Ocean Projects Department, Naval Oceanographic Office, Stennis Space Center (SSC), Mississippi.

Duties

You will collaborate closely with electronics engineers and mechanical engineers to utilize schematics for updating existing sensors and developing new ones. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic components critical in supporting the engineering team’s efforts to innovate and improve sensor performance and functionality. You will serve as Lead Technician for the at-sea operation, deployment and recovery of Environmental Acoustic Recording System (EARS) sensors and other oceanographic instrumentation. You will interpret and work from technical drawings and diagrams to ensure accurate implementation and integration of sensor technologies within various systems. You will perform EARS-related system assembly, testing, validation, documentation, and packing in preparation of field operations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Extensive temporary duty assignments are required (50% or more of the work year) to survey vessels and foreign countries for direct repair and maintenance operations.
  • Medical certification of fitness for sea duty is required.
  • In remote areas, he/she will also often be required to live in primitive quarters and subsist on military rations or foreign food.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialize experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience troubleshooting major electrical systems such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), sonar systems, data collection, and telemetry systems.; Experience executing a complete life cycle tests for a class of electronic systems; Experience performing technical work using technical engineering concepts, principles and practices.
