Duties

You will calibrate and adjust electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic controls to maintain efficient equipment operation. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and inspect problems areas for defective components on electronic industrial equipment. You will use test equipment to tune, align, and calibrate electronically controlled industrial equipment. You will adjust, replace, or repair thermostats, switches, fuel cut-off apparatus, burners, fuel feed, flame safeguard controls, ball bearings, or thrust bearings to maintain operational working condition.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • WG-08 incumbent is required to possess or obtain within 18 months a valid third-class operator license using the National Association of Power Engineers criteria or its equivalent.
  • WG-11 incumbent is required as a minimum to possess a valid third-class operator license using the National Association of Power Engineers criteria or its equivalent.
  • WG-11 incumbent is required to be certified as a Connecticut Visible Emissions Evaluator if testing is required.
  • The incumbent must be able to be CPR certified.
  • This position is designated as ALPHA and incumbent will be required to report in emergencies and inclement weather.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

The Screen-out Element for WG-11 is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION as demonstrated by the following: 1) Troubleshoot, test, repair, and perform maintenance of all thermal plants; 2) Perform inspections of flow meter recordings, integrated flows, pressures, temperatures, levels, and analyzer readings; 3) Interpret control logic drawings, ladder diagrams, blueprints, electrical/electronic schematic diagrams and specifications; and 4) Utilize various electrical/electronic instruments such as oscilloscopes, capacitance analyzers, signal generators, ohmmeters, power analyzers, etc. **NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume. The selective placement factor for WG-11 is: 3rd-Class Operator License (see Conditions of Employment above), The Screen-out Element for WG-8 is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC as demonstrated by the following: 1) Perform inspections of flow meter recordings, integrated flows, pressures, temperatures, levels, and analyzer readings; 2) Interpret control logic drawings, ladder diagrams, blueprints, electrical/electronic schematic diagrams and specifications; and 3) Utilize various electrical/electronic instruments such as oscilloscopes, capacitance analyzers, signal generators, ohmmeters, power analyzers, etc. **NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume.
