About the Position: Position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Human Resources Division, Military Personnel Branch, S1, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to provide a variety of customer service, administrative, clerical and office automation duties in support of military personnel branch operations.

Duties

Assist soldiers of the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) with personnel related matters such as monitoring, managing, reviewing, verifying, and coordinating military personnel actions. Perform a variety of administrative, clerical, and office automation duties in support of the military personnel branch operations. Interview personnel to obtain data needed to process actions or obtains data from files and records. Utilize several military personnel database systems to update, maintain, and manipulate information. Conduct in-processing and out-processing briefings for new incoming and outgoing military personnel. Prepare insurance and beneficiary documents and counsels’ soldiers on unusual beneficiary election. Prepare and assemble promotion packets for centralized promotion boards. Maintain officer and enlisted records ensuring proper tasks and standard operating procedures are met.

  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) utilizing various automated systems to review, extract and/or update military personnel records, 2) reviewing standardized documents for completeness and correctness, 3) responding to customer inquiries in various forms such as walk-ins, emails or telephonically, and 4) preparing reports or correspondence for various personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalCustomer ServiceManages and Organizes InformationTechnical Competence Advancement requirement to positions up to GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/Notification of Personnel Action that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package.
