This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Information Systems Division, Software Engineering Staff (TGSF).
This position(s) primary purpose is to support the operational and implementation needs of IT systems.
Duties
As a Information Technology Specialist (APPSW), your typical work assignments may include:
Planning and develops policies, procedures, and strategies that ensure optimization and integration in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the operating environment.
Overseeing coordinated efforts to plan for and acquire systems software for agency wide automated systems.
Performing design and construction of the system, and maintains the system through testing, implementation, and life cycle support.
Overseeing financial system network, telecommunications, and disaster recovery operational capabilities.
Performing software engineering, information technology, and executive management practices.

Qualifications
The Information Technology Series, 2210, has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR), which must be met in addition to the specialized experience.
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate for all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Applicants applying for the 14 must meet one of the following requirements:
A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS13 grade level.
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal services or equivalent experience in the private sector, which demonstrates your ability to perform the following: 1) Addressing audit findings and fulfill requests for disaster recovery documentation, physical security documentation, system security settings, hardware specifications, software management controls, system setup documentation, and data management policies and procedures; 2) Conducting extensive investigations to explore new technologies and strategic business opportunities and reconciles divergent and conflicting requirements and constraints for achieving strategic goals; 3) Providing first line communications which includes problem determination, problem resolution, and making recommendations to resolve IT issues and requirements; and, 4) Managing the preparation of concept papers, business case analysis (BCA), requirements analyses, cost-benefit analyses, performance metrics, and other supporting material essential to using best practices and planning for and managing IT investments.
Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
