Anchorage, AK Salary: Salary: $74,594 (Step 01) to $96,969 (Step 10); Vancouver, WA Salary: $71,033 (Step 01) to $92,340 (Step 10); Hilo, HI Salary: $68,845 (Step 01) to $89,496 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. SUMMARY CONTINUED: For Anchorage, AK: The selectee will be entitled to a cost-of-living allowance of 1.69% in addition to the basic salary. For Hilo, HI: The selectee will be entitled to a cost-of-living allowance of 3.15% in addition to the basic salary. There are two vacancies; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available. As a Physical Science Technician within the Volcano Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

For GS-10: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-10 level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service that is in or related to the duties of this position. Specialized experience may include work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, engineering, electronics, geology, and oceanography if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of such GS level work include: 1) Install, maintain, operate, and test electronic equipment, which is specially designed, constructed, or modified to fill a specific function; 2)Work with subsystems that are complex because of miniature size, density of circuitry, lack of available documentation, etc; 3) Work on equipment in remote spots, high towers or in cramped quarters without time for trial & error approaches or bulky test equipment. **OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in the physical sciences or other field of study directly related to the work of this position for the required 1 year of specialized experience if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of this position. **OR applicants may substitute a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and appropriate graduate level education (as described above) that is beyond the first 2 years of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
