This position is located within the Division of Nursing Services, Inpatient, Crownpoint, NM. The purpose of this position is to provide receptionist duties, record keeping and miscellaneous clerical support duties associated with patient care and treatment in the clinic. Reports to Supervisory Nurse or designee of the assigned unit.
Duties
Answers questions and directs visitors to appropriate clinical locations and/or departments.
Receives and directs calls to appropriate personnel of the Inpatient Nursing Department.
Maintains and adheres to confidentiality of Health Records and communication with patients in accordance with the Privacy Act, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Indian Health Service standards.
Transcribes physician's orders, involving patient activities, diets, test and medications to the Kardex, Medication Administration Record (MAR), and IV sheet.
Performs routine duties which include assisting staff with transport/transfer arrangements, arranging clinic appointments and reviews and transcribes physician's orders.
Arranges Inpatient Nursing department patient appointments for general or specialty clinics, comprehensive services and/or consultants.
Coordinates patient transports and appointments with timeliness to avoid conflicts in patient
Performs work utilizing a variety of automated systems to maintain an appointment system
Maintains/post current telephone numbers to all facilities, as well as private doctors providing patient care or any follow up care by referrals.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of the type of experience that will be credited are performing receptionist, record keeping, key-entering and retrieving patient data from the automated systems associated with patient care and treatment in a healthcare facility.
GS-05: Have at least one full year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level.
OR Have 4 years of education above the high school level.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: performs a full range of procedural duties in support of the office.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
