Duties

This position is located in the Office of Compliance (EXC), Division of Regulatory Enforcement (CRE). The Division is responsible for assessing consumer products' compliance to mandatory standards and conducting compliance and enforcement actions to ensure products that fail to meet those standards are not permitted to enter U.S. commerce and/or are recalled. We work with manufacturers, importers, consumer advocates, and other federal regulatory bodies, in pursuing our mission of ensuring consumer products meet minimum safety requirements. We also provide advice and guidance on the requirements of various federal product regulations.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) designing, developing, analyzing, managing and/or implementing a regulatory or international trade compliance programs; 2) advising and updating management officials on the status of regulatory or international compliance issues; and 3) leading complex cases or projects. Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicants must meet the qualifications for this position by the closing date of this announcement.

Education

This position does not have a mandatory education requirement.

There is no substitution for specialized experience at this grade level.
