About the Position: Serves as the technical and administrative supervisor over ammunition demilitarization operations, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations.

Duties

Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instruct subordinates in new procedures; and provide direction when problems arise concerning demilitarization of conventional ammunition. Adjusts plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible. Determines equipment, supplies, and maintenance required. Maintains supplies and equipment for all Directorate operations. Assures that material is ordered and delivered to Directorate work sites so as not to delay work. Assures all Directorate equipment in operating buildings and in the field are properly maintained and schedules equipment for repair. Responsible for Directorate Hazardous Waste and Material Program. Ensures that all Demil Programs permitted by the State of Utah are in compliance so no penalty occurs due to improper procedures or processes. Develops performance standards, counsels employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for ammunition demilitarization. Reviews and approves cost estimates for all programs within area of responsibility. Determines methods of detonation, static fire, deactivation furnace, chemical dissolution and burning to destroy ammunition and explosives in order to apply the appropriate procedure for a particular program.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Deactivation Furnace Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Knowledge to operate the Ammunition Peculiar Equipment (APE) 1236 Deactivation Furnace, by monitoring various types of gauges and meters to detect and correct variations from established tolerances. In the operation and adjustments to the demilitarization equipment including conveyors, compressors, filter systems, and/or scrubbers. In the destruction of conventional munitions ranging from small arms to rockets; by operating pull apart or breakdown machines while following procedures specific to the particular items being destroyed. In the operation of a forklift, capable of lifting up to 10,000 pounds to; move, load, transfer, transport, and stack or unstuck palletized items in a safe manner. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprints)Ability To Lead or SuperviseDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work involves lifting and working on production including standing, reaching, bending, stooping and manipulating carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds lines at rhythmic pace for extended periods parts and using machines and hand tools. During fork lift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms. Working Conditions: Work is performed on the demolition range and outside on ramps and storage areas when weather is often inclement. There are assignments where dirt, grease, noise, and odors are often disagreeable. Required to wear protective clothing which is specially made and treated for working on explosives; including safety shoes, glasses, gas masks, and coveralls. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea.
