The Special Assistant position is in the Audit Leadership and Support Operations Directorate. This is a career broadening developmental opportunity. The incumbent will serve a 3-4 year term and then rotate into one of the Audit Directorates. The incumbent serves as an expert advisor to executive leadership, representing the Deputy Inspector General for Audit (DIG-AUD) and the Principal Assistant Inspector General for Audit (PAIGA) and accomplishing objectives in consonance with their views.

Duties

Prepares executive summaries of critical issues to ensure the DIG-AUD and PAIGA remain knowledgeable of problems minimizing prep time. Provides assistance to internal and external sources regarding the DIG-AUD and PAIGA preferences and objectives. Coordinates high priority requests from the DoD and Military Departments, Congress, other Federal Offices. Works with AUD leadership and other components to write responses to requests that effectively respond and reflect the position of the OIG. Plans, implements, and leads special projects concerning Audit’s operations and oversees Audit’s working groups. Develops and maintains relationships within the OIG to ensure effective and accurate representation of the DIG-AUD and PAIGA positions, policies, and work. Coordinates with other OIG DIGs, OIG PAIGs, AUD AIGs and DoD contacts to ensure that policy, guidance, and management decisions are available to impacted individuals as soon as practical and required reminders are issued. Assists the DIG-AUD or PAIGA in ensuring efficient review of audit reports.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Position has been designated as TS/SCI (Sensitive Compartmented Information), Security designation level such as Special Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see http://www.sss.gov).
  • You may be required to complete a financial disclosure (OGE-450).
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Time in Grade: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the Federal service or at an equivalent level Specialized Experience Definition: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the Federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in planning, coordinating, and providing direction on a variety of projects and processes. Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders. Experience in analyzing sensitive information, drawing conclusions, and recommending corrective action as required. Experience in auditing practices and quality standards and skill to apply them to very board assignments. Experience in establishing and maintaining successful working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience. Qualification and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
