The Maintenance Worker (Trails) operates as part of a team under the direction of the Crew Leader and the Chief of Facilities. This position performs maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, construction, and stabilization tasks on park trails and related public use facilities throughout Petroglyph National Monument. Incumbent has a good working knowledge of techniques for the construction and maintenance of trails, including dry stone masonry and carpentry. This position operates and maintains a variety of power tools and hand tools such as rock bars, double jacks, 12 pound peen hammers, single jacks, shovels, rakes, axes, brushing shears, chain saws, jackhammers and bit grinders, etc.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker (Trails) position without more than normal supervision. Perform complex work as a maintenance worker performing trail construction and maintenance including basic dry stone masonry skills for projects such as water bars, rock steps, retaining walls, etc; basic log carpentry skills to construct and repair trail bridges and foot logs, replace bridge decks, railings, stringers, and fences. This experience includes the use and operation of hand and power tools used to perform trail work such as rock bar, double jack, jackhammer, plugs and feathers, etc. Take initiative to solve difficult problems and can accomplish a variety of maintenance worker trail assignments independently and safely.
