The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Maintenance Worker within Facilities Management Interior Design service. The incumbent supports the service through performing carpentry, electrical, and plumbing/pipefitting duties. The Incumbent participates in accomplishing Interior Design moves and coordinates schedule set-ups for Medical Center events.

Duties

Works with electrical and mechanical systems. Uses basic shop tools, power drills, saws, tape measures, levels hack saws, pipe wrenches etc. Constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Constructs and repairs a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles and items requiring limited decorative trim and molding. Interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications and determine the work sequences and types of wood and/or special materials needed. Performs plumbing/pipping repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe, and leaky drains. Repairs water heaters, disposal units and faucets. Performs other related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent is required to climb ladders, reach and lift heavy loads over forty (40) ponds and walk long distances on a regular workday. A great amount of kneeling, bending and climbing of stairways is required. Must be able to stand on ladders for long periods of time at various heights. The employee must be able to wear safety and protective clothing, or equipment prescribed for the work setting.
