The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an equipment Fire Alarm Communications Work Center Operator at Kirtland AFB Fire Department with delegated responsibility for receiving all types of fire alarm, medical, aircraft, hazardous materials and mutual aid emergency calls and dispatching a wide variety of emergency vehicles and personnel to Kirtland AFB.
Duties
Dispatch equipment and personnel following established emergency response procedures in accordance with checklists and standard operating guides.
Process stand-by requests and notify appropriate station personnel of pertinent stand-by-request.
Answer all administrative and emergency reporting lines to include emergency request and firefighting apparatus as well as general routing departmental matters.
Maintain logs and reports for Operations, Fire Prevention, Administration and Fire Alarm Communications Work Center recording all vehicle movements and personnel activities.
Responsible for the proper reception and transmission of all emergencies and messages to responding units and chiefs.

- Recall to duty may be a requirement of this position
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment and participation in random drug testing

- A relocation bonus may be authorized. Completion of a 1-year service agreement will be required.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Group Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level (or other equivalent pay systems) in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes experience assisting with operating a telephone system to direct local and routine or complicated long-distance calls of various precedence; using standard firefighting, medical, aircraft, hazardous materials and off base response emergency operations and communication techniques.

EDUCATION: One full year of graduate education in a related field to the position being filled. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT TO VERIFY YOUR EDUCATION. FAILURE TO SUBMIT YOUR TRANSCRIPT WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT TO VERIFY YOUR EDUCATION. FAILURE TO SUBMIT YOUR TRANSCRIPT WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of basic and specialized fire alarm systems equipment, operation, techniques and procedures.
2. Knowledge of safety requirements, safety standards, regulations and technical orders and clearly stated instructions to respond to a range of recurring questions.
3. Knowledge and ability to learn computer programs in order to track vehicle status, manning, number assignments, resolve discrepancies and prepare reports.
4. Skill in operating communications equipment.
5. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
