Duties

As a Health Scientist you will: Serve as an expert in health sciences for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for health science studies. Design, oversee, implement, and conduct scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems. Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on scientific operations that are critical to the public health community. Conduct major statistical studies or continuing projects that represent an important segment of the center's primary investigative program. Consult with epidemiologists, statisticians, and public health professionals concerning on-going and established studies or other projects where extensive methodological or subject matter interpretation is required. Synthesize and interpret the relevant literature and provides analytical review of current research. Supervise a small contingent of positions focused on planning and evaluation within the Office of Integration and Coordination.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing leadership and strategic direction on policies and objectives for global public health programs.. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
