Serves as a Hazardous Materials Aviation Safety Inspector in the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (AXH).

Duties

Supports the mission and objectives of AXH under the broad direction and leadership of the Director (AXH-1) and Deputy Director (AXH-2) and executes the AXH safety oversight activities through the technical and administrative direction of the assigned manager. Performs multiple, varying levels of complex oversight assignments under the limited direction of the Supervisory Hazardous Materials Aviation Safety Inspector. Applies experience and advanced technical knowledge of the Hazardous Materials Safety Program to complete assignments and develop plans and techniques to improve air carrier hazardous materials safety programs, policies, and procedures. Conducts hazardous materials compliance inspections of regulated parties that introduce or transport hazardous materials into air transportation. Investigates incidents, discrepancies, and regulatory compliance violations related to hazardous material air transportation.

Qualifications

TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-I (FG/GS-13) LEVEL, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H (FG/GS-10/11/12) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes:Hazardous materials experience within the transportation industry, which includes directly overseeing or leading data-driven aviation safety inspections and investigations or experience with hazardous materials in the transportation industry performing duties such as: acceptance, handling, loading, training, inspection and auditing.Conducting complex regulatory investigations.Applying risk-based safety data to drive decisions.Networking and building relationships with stakeholders; andPossessing experience with hazardous materials transportation in commerce or specialized hazardous materials experience within the aviation industry.Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history. Qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
