Duties

As a (an) Supervisory Health Scientist, you will: Serve as the Deputy Division Director for CDC's Division of State and Local Readiness (DSLR). Direct and manage the operations of the Division, providing leadership and guidance to Division leadership and staff, including on activities associated with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) program and public health emergency response. Serve as a primary liaison with state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) and NGO partners on readiness and response issues. Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Serve on review committees, study groups, public health task groups, or comparable groups delegated responsibility for reviewing and developing public health policies, procedures and guidelines as they relate to the Division's programs. Participate in projects and program evaluations assuring that periodic Division reviews are accurate and timely. Serve as a leading authority and integrate knowledge and experience of public health programs and policies to provide guidance on cross cutting procedural and multilayered and multifaceted policy issues to other components of the agency and other governmental agencies; resolve problems, modify procedures; develop and interpret complex policies to meet new and novel conditions; and defend public health policies before representatives of other governmental agencies, State, tribal, local, and territorial governments, private industry, academia, consumer organizations, Congress, and the scientific community. Provide expert-quality formal and informal reports that address vital issues, multi-functional study and analytical approaches, expert-level findings, and cogent, substantive recommendations that are primarily used as the basis for key executive-level management decisions.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Desired Qualification Requirements/Experience: Provide executive-level management, programmatic, and operational leadership and guidance for a division. Serve as the principal advisor, direct, and oversee multi-functional program activities involving a broad and complex range of scientific public health programs. Have an extensive breadth of Scientific Public Health program knowledge, intensity of efforts, and the managing of multiple projects and programs operating concurrently. Applicants must currently occupy a full-time Career or Career Conditional competitive service position within CDC/ATSDR or an Excepted Service position under the Schedule A, Schedule B, or Veterans Recruitment Appointment Authority within the CDC/ATSDR or Commissioned Corps equivalent, unless otherwise specified in the Announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
