This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans.
The primary purpose of this position is to develop and implement international affairs policies, strategies, and engagement activities, with a focus on Mexico.
Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.
Duties
As a Regional Affairs Specialist, GS-0301-14, your typical work assignments may include:
Develops and implements homeland security policies in relation to Mexico, in coordination with other U.S. federal officials and foreign counterparts.
Organizes and participates in interagency, bilateral and multilateral events to support the implementation of homeland security policy.
Prepares senior DHS officials for interagency bilateral and multilateral events to drive homeland security priorities.
Provides professional mentoring and guidance, including serving as acting director on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
a. Developing and implementing international affairs policies, strategies, and engagement activities, with a focus on the Western Hemisphere, Mexico, or the U.S.-Mexico border.
b. Identifying, working with, and negotiating with stakeholders including the U.S. government, foreign partners, and international community to advance organizational priorities and national security missions.
c. Preparing and reviewing draft memos, reports, summaries, and analyses on international affairs priorities.
d. Conducting written and/or verbal briefings to senior leaders and managers in preparation for high-level meetings and conferences with interagency counterparts and Western Hemisphere governments.
e. Providing professional mentoring and guidance. Working with Western Hemisphere governments on migration and national security issues.
f. Working with Western Hemisphere governments on migration and/or national security issues.

Possession of this qualify ranking factor is demonstrated through your experience:
Skill in working with Western Hemisphere governments on migration and/or national security issues.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
