About the Position: Serves as Office Automation Assistant to the Director and Deputy Director, Fielded Force Integration Directorate, US Army Medical Center of Excellence, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. US Army Medical Center of Excellence is located in beautiful and historic San Antonio and is within easy commuting distance of desirable neighborhoods and excellent school systems.

Duties

Uses word processing equipment/personal computers to produce documents that require skill in performing nonstandard functions. Receives visitors and telephone calls and refers them to proper person or furnishes information requested. Selects, rearranges, and consolidates data from a number of source documents based on instructions to include maintaining a variety of office files. Operates motor vehicles capable of carrying loads up to and including 1-ton to transport mail, articles, and material throughout the activity. Receives, sorts, and routes incoming mail to approximately 8-12 distribution points by organizational designation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes operating word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications to create various documents, graphs, charts, etc.; typing and/or editing correspondence, technical notes/reports; reviewing various correspondence for proper grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation; converting spreadsheets into graphs, charts, etc.; maintaining filing systems for training and performance ratings; administering a mail distribution program; coordinating travel arrangements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages and Organizes InformationTechnical CompetenceWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
