The primary purpose of this position is to participate and provide assistance in organizing and developing a broad range of recreational activities and sports programs within the squadron's fitness/sports center.
Duties
Assists in the base sports program, to include intramural, extramural, varsity sports and fitness programs.
Assists in determining the adequacy of sports facilities and fitness equipment.
Assists in arranging for supplies and services needed to accomplish scheduled sports and fitness activities.
Participates in developing publicity items and evaluating the effectiveness of various programs.
Assists in developing Sports and Fitness Training Programs for newly assigned personnel.
Assists in soliciting and selecting volunteers and/or paid instructors for fitness activities which could not be scheduled without their assistance.

- May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Work may be performed outside in all types of weather conditions
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities, Teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities, Aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service, Aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities, Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children), Sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop, Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility, or Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. Note: Resume must show supporting experience.

EDUCATION: Completed one (1) full year of graduate education or an internship, with courses related to recreation or physical education such as Sports Management or Sports Science. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of principles, concepts, procedures and techniques of intramural/extramural sports management and fitness special programs and events.
2. Knowledge of a body of standardized rules, procedures or operations requiring training or experience to perform a full range of recreational and fitness duties for indoor and outdoor sports facilities.
3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures; and knowledge of proper use of and maintenance of electronic and mechanical fitness equipment and supplies associated with fitness and a variety of sports.
4. Ability to plan, organize and manage the functions of the various sports and fitness programs.
5. Knowledge, skill and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to develop publicity items, train and provide instructions and guidance to individuals.
6. Knowledge to support business operations, provide input to budget requests, as well as decisions on appropriate and non-appropriate supplies and equipment.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
