TOUR OF DUTY: Full-time, Flextime and alternate work schedules may be available.
TYPE OF POSITION: Temporary, not to exceed 1 year, may be extended and may become permanent.

The Disability Processing Section Chief provides leadership and supervision to a unit of technical, clerical and administrative employees working in a Disability Processing Section. This includes the direction of all special disability initiatives, including Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) Screening and OHA decision writing. Serves as a contact with OHA Senior Attorneys and Congressional Liaison Staffs. Serves as a contact person for DDS and Congressional Liaison Staff. Coordinates work activities within the Program Service Center in conjunction with work received from field offices, DDSs, and other offices. Ensures that employees provide quality service. Plans and coordinates the rotation of employees to the various phases of work to assure an even flow and distribution of work. Directs the work of the on-site physicians and psychologists, and coordinates the assignment of off-site physicians with the Project Officer in the Regional Offices.

Qualifications
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience must have included the development, examination, investigation, adjudication, or authorization of claims for disability retirement, disability and death compensation, or administrative or other experience in the analysis, development, or review of a disability and death compensation program, or a disability retirement program. This experience must have (1) provided a knowledge of claims analysis and adjudication, medical terms and findings, causes of diseases, treatment methods and probable results, relation of physical impairment to ability of claimant to work; and (2) demonstrates the ability to develop and evaluate pertinent medical facts and evidence and to apply and interpret laws, regulations, policies, precedents, and other criteria for disability and death cases.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In addition to the specialized experience requirement, applicants must have experience in making medical determinations of disability at the initial reconsideration, and/or continuing disability review level. Applicants who do not meet the selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration.
