You will serve as an Ordnance Equipment Mechanic Helper in the Ordnance Maintenance Division of NMCLANT ORDMAINT. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. WG-5: $20.04 - $23.34 WG-8: $23.55 - $27.47

Duties

You will examine, overhaul, repair, rebuild, test and inspect ordnance equipment. You will use trouble shooting techniques in order to trouble shoot new, prototype and state of the art ordnance equipment and systems. You will use special electronics and electro-mechanical adapters to perform special functions. You will read and interpret schematic wiring diagrams, manufacturers, specifications, NAVAIR/NAVSEA publications, and associated information pertinent to the operation, maintenance, modification, certification and test changes.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position regularly and routinely handles and physically performs tasks with conventional ammunition, ammunition components, explosives and related hazardous material and as such requires certification in accordance with the Command.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
  • The incumbent will occasionally required to board ships or barges while working at the Station Pier or travel to CONUS or OCONUS locations.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
